Identity Foreclosure- The young adult accepts the values and the identity that their family and other close ones gave them in their childhood. Their Identity is "foreclosed" until they find themselves.
Identity Moratorium- The young adult had made commitments, yet they are still searching for themselves. They have an identity, yet it is not fully developed.
Diffusion- Where one had no idea of their own identity and not even trying to find themselves.
Identity Achievement- Developed well-defined values and self-concepts, identities may expand and define more in adulthood. They are committed and are confident in themselves.

One thing we talked about during class is cliques. Many people are involved in these. Each group has a particular spot they sit/stand in everyday, they dress a certain way, and act differently towards people. A few reasons why people may want to be in a clique is to just try to fit in, to feel wanted,to be accepted, and alot of them feel safer when they are involved in a group with people like themselves. These groups aren't always positive sometimes the people in them are mean and make fun of others not inside the group. They sometimes act as if they are better then other people.

Adolescents pass through many changes in their lives in a small period of time. Throughtout adolescence the biggest development are physical. The most dramatic and troublesome are changes in height and weight. In this time girls have breast develeopment and the start of menstruation and boys have have noticeable voice change ans the development of facil hair. It is a hard time to adolescents and thy can feel lost and out of place.

Adolescence is a period of change between childhood and adulthood, physically, socially, and psychologically. As a means of coping with these extreme changes, an adolescent generally joins a clique. These cliques are means of social protection and security, and provide a close group of friends. Over the course of adolescence, a person may change their clique to mirror their equally dynamic values and self-concept. Cliques usually require a relatively strict adherence to common activities, clothing, attitudes, hangouts, and manner of speech. Joining a clique often requires a measure of willingness to conform. Sometimes a clique will be left by an individual due to a conflict of values, but cliques as a whole help adolescents to form a self-concept.

The importance of conformity and peer groups during the adolescent stage of life is invaluable. Every person feels the need to belong to something; some kind of group to conform to. This need can be fulfilled by religious or cultural groups, and also crowds, cliques, and gangs. Try to think of one single person that you know who does not belong to a group of some kind. Unless you know a hermit, you might find this pretty difficult. Social groups are an essential part of human life. Some might say that they hinder the process of finding one's identity, but i would argue the opposite. I believe they are an integral part of the process of identity achievement.

Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are both very serious conditions for people to have. It is found most commonly in women, however, it is possible for men to become anorexic or bulimic. For these diseases, it is much more than the fact that they think they are fat. They actually believe it with their whole heart and go to extreme measures to overcome it. While bulimics purge their food, anorexics just choose not to eat. It is much more mental and emotional than it is physical, and it may take a long time, possibly even years, to overcome these conditions.

An objective to adolescence is a rite of passage. A rite of passage is a socially recognized and ritualized change in status. This is critical because this is the change from childhood to adulthood. Adulthood rituals often involve cutting onself, being decorated in some specific way, or drinking a foul-tasting potion as part of an elaborate ceremony. After the ceremony is over, the whole community is aware of the person's official adult status.

Adolecense go through many changes in life. They can go through a rough stage of self-conciousness. Consequenses of that could be Anerexia Nervosa or Bulimia. This most commonly happens to women. The women tend to follow it strictly. Studies show it is more of a mental problem more then physical. But it is possible to overcome through out time and counseling.

James Marcia expanded on Erikson's work. He devided the identity crisis into four stages. The first of these is Identity forclosure. this is when the adolescent will accept the identity handed to them and not try to find another one. These children let other people define them and do not care whether it is a negative identity they are given or not. The second is identity diffusion. This is where the adolescent does not have an idea of what their identity is and they do not try to find out. This can cause a person to have not commitment to valuse or personal goals. The third is Moratorium. This is where the adolescent is trying to find their identity through trial and error. This child may never acheive a sense of identity and end up in a state of diffusion. The forth is Identity acheivement. This is where the adolescent has gone through identity crisis and has come out with a well defined self concept.

The two eating disorders that we learned about are bulimia and anorexia nervosa. Belimia is when someone eats food but yet they throw it up afterwards. and anorexia is when they slowly stop eating all together an lose a lot of weight. These conditions are hard to overcome and are brought upon how people look at them and their emotional causes. These illnesses can cause many health problems through men and women. Some may be hospitalized and others may come to death.

These are Marcia's Four States of Idenity.
Identity Foreclosure- this is pretty much adolescents who accept their idenitiy and vaules you were given as a child.
Identity Moratorium- this is when adolescents experiment through identitys to see who you really are.
Diffusion- its when someone has no clear idea on heir identity and is not attempting to find one.
Identity Achievement-this is adolescents who have gone through the identity crisis and pretty much come to conclusion of their idenitity.
